John Frusciante is immensely talented, and - even by rock'n'roll standards - weird. I've actually known him for quite a long time, although it's been a few years since we last spoke. His innate mindset - one of wide-eyed, perfectly unselfconscious fascination with everyone and everything around him - is unlike anything else I've encountered in so gifted a musician.

Woo. I've never made any effort to get to know the Red Chilli Peppers, but I always have time for Frusciante since he did stuff with Michael Rother. I have a 68Mb mp3 of a gig they did together at the Knitting Factory. Thought it was way cool to see at least one Chilli Pepper keeping his head up and probably not being recognised at a small Rother gig at the ICA in London last year.

The city is well, but has changed greatly over the past few years. A lot of my old haunts are no longer here and have fallen victim to gentrification.
